In Floridsdorf, the cityscape and waterways intersect. In an increasingly warm city, open and public waters serve as free oases for cooling off as well as important social spaces. The participatory art project "Badekultur in Flodo," consisting of three parts, explores the relationship of Floridsdorf residents to the Danube and their perception of water bodies in general from a base at Pius-Parsch-Platz.
Textile artists and social designers are creating a bathing island in the middle of the square. Together with Floridsdorf residents, they collect stories and ideas on the topic of bathing culture. They translate this information into a hybrid swimwear collection specifically designed for the location, suitable for both urban everyday life and swimming, and playing with societal clothing norms. The clothing is intended to function as a thermometer (indicating weather and climate), a social mirror, and an indicator of proximity to water and bathing spaces. In a final performance, costumed performers bring the water of the Danube to Pius-Parsch-Platz, creating a flowing connection between the Danube and the city.
"Is swimming in the Danube waters part of everyday life for Floridsdorf residents? How has the relationship of Floridsdorf residents to water changed over time, and what does the future of Floridsdorf's bathing culture look like? What stories do Floridsdorf residents have to tell about swimming?" These are the questions Hybrid Dessous seeks to answer.
